It had the characteristic white patch at the base of the tail on top. After looking through a spotting scope, we were more positive on the ID. It was very active, like the owl we saw. It was around sunset

We were lucky enough to be in Homer during the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival, so some other birders were at this location and we determined ID together
