Wood Frog

Rana sylvatica

Description:

Saw this really neat white frog in a stream! It had a black line over its eyes, so it was not completely white. Is it just another variation in color of the common Wood Frog?

Habitat:

Small calm creek in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

There were several other normally-colored wood frogs around - it's just this one that was strikingly white! I tried to catch him to get a closer look but he got away.

No, I don't think it's albino because it has the black eye stripe. A colleague of mine suggested that it might be leucistic, causing a lightening of the color. However, this frog is so snow white, it's amazing.

Albino frog??!!
