Spear Thistle

Cirsium vulgare

Description:

Green plant with long slender stems with lobes/leaves that have thorns at the termination of each pointy lobe. The stems form a round cluster around the plant center.

Habitat:

Spotted at Richmond Hill Wastewater Treatment Facility in Richmond Hill, GA. The plant was found on the dirt/grassy road between the water impoundments. The impoundments are overgrown with cattails, reeds, and cypress trees.

Notes:

The plant is similar in size and shape to a Dandelion (without the thorns)
