Crinum sp
About 50 cm tall plant of Amaryllidaceae family. Probably bulbous forming (we did not check). The leaves are linear in a rosette at the basis, and the inflorescence rise on long stalks. We observed two stalks, one per rosette; one carrying three flowers, the other one only one. Flowers are whitish with pink line outside, six-petaled but only opening at the time.
Grasslands of Fouta Jalon, the "watertower" of West Africa. Seen far away from settlements, but just on top of a small waterfall.
According to range, this could be Crinum ornatum.
Ah - yes, this one was growing wild; quite far away from settlements and agricultural fields. And growing very close to a waterfall...
Was this growing wild? Mine is a garden variety...and looks just like the one you have posted. C. ornatum may be correct though.
Many thanks Sukanya - it does look like like Crinum, but I'm not finding C zeylanicum mentioned in Africa. On the contrary, I did find C. ornatum OK with the range...
