Passerini's Tanager

Ramphocelus passerinii

Description:

A medium sized passerine, resident to the caribbean foothills from southern Mexico to Western Panama. The male is entirely black except for a red rump and silvery bill. The female is less strikingly colored, a pattern of olive and gray. This species was once considered conspecific with the Cherrie's Tanager (found on the pacific slope of Costa Rica), but it was split. However, some authorities still consider them to be one species.

Habitat:

Midland Rainforest

Notes:

This spotting is of a male and a female, seen together. Possibly a breeding pair.
