white-moustached jumper-male

Simaethula sp

Description:

This little dark jumper was about 3mm long. He looked like an inverted heart with two shiny black eyes at the bottom. The slightly rounded abdomen was heart shaped with some bristles. Cephalothorax looked flatter. Both fore legs were heald against his body and pointing forwards.Below his close-set eyes was a line of white - this gives him his name "the elegant white moustached" Simaethula.

Habitat:

Eucalyptus tree. He was trying not to be noticed by hiding under aleaf or at teh leaf axil.

Notes:

This is the smallest jumper (Salticidae) I've seen. Females seem to be slightly larger. http://arachne.org.au/01_cms/details.asp...
