Noisy Miner

Manorina melanocephala

Notes:

This little bird fell out of its nest.. After I took this photos I picked it up and put it on a tree.. Mum landed on my shoulder and I had the feeling she was happy to have her baby safe. :)

Great series and story

I think she knew that the Magpies were already waiting for their change to get the little one. She did not attack me at all..

My husband and I found a baby in a similar situation last week with the two parents attending. Our baby was a little bit bigger than yours - he looked like he wasn't too far off flying, but wasn't quite ready yet. We put him up in a nearby tree. I was amazed that the parents didn't attack us or even make warning calls - normally Noisy Miners are very loud in the presence of a threat. And I can't believe this mum landed on your shoulder! Maybe they know we are just trying to help!

That's a nice experience Christiane. They often fall from their nest slightly before they can fly successfully (they're called 'runners') and the parents stay nearby to feed them and distract predators.
