Description:

Visiting my brother in Swansea in his beautiful garden in the grounds of Clyne castle I spotted this insect on a children's toy. It was so big and different I was drawn to it. It looked fascinating I've never seen one before.

Daniele, I agree completely! Apparently I was asleep at the keyboard! Gemma, please ignore (and forgive) my previous comment. I do believe that this is a species of Snipe Fly. Daniele has it right!

I'm not sure the snout and tail are right for Scorpionfly. I made another suggestion :-)

This looks like a female Scorpionfly (Order Mecoptera). Family Panorpidae.
