Common Ringed Plover

Charadrius hiaticula

Description:

This small plover is 18 to 20 cm in length, with brown back and wings and a white belly and breast. Pictured here is a juvenile or immature bird, recognized by the brown neckband and brown to black beak. In adults, the neckband becomes black, and the beak orange.

Habitat:

Shores of soda lake Elementaita in central Kenya.
