Cemented Turret

Description:

These small pyramids were found at the top of the tallest pyramid of the Calakmul Mayan ruins. They were probably built by ants, although none were present. They may be nocturnal due to the extreme heat of the rocks during the day. They were surprisingly hard, formed of thousands of cemented pebbles, with a single central hole. They would be able to withstand heavy rainfall. The central tunnel was very smooth. These were about 9 cm high.

Habitat:

On the stones of the pyramids of the Mayan ruins of Calakmul. Reserva de la Biosfera Calakmul.

Notes:

Tiny pyramids of stone built by a civilization millions of years old on top of a pyramid of stone built by another civilization thousands of years old.
