Brown Watersnake

Nerodia taxispilota

Habitat:

aquatic habitats, most common in flowing water such as rivers, canals, and blackwater cypress creeks.

Notes:

I have a lot of green iguana pictures at this park, so normally I don't bother. However, today was cold and I hadn't seen much so I went over to the edge of the canal to take a pic of an iguana. To my surprise, this is what I saw!!! It was right next to the iguana (see pics 4 & 5) trying to get started on shedding it's skin, as you can tell from the dull grey color and cloudy eyes. It kept rubbing its "snout" on the rough rocks every now and then. The iguana was keeping an eye on me and the two reptiles seemed uninterested in each other. The snake was large. Notice in last photo you can see part of the body through the rocks near the right margin.

I think that the snake is very interested in the iguana!
