Maniola jurtina
A very common butterfly in the UK. The underside has a brown hindwing and orange forewing, with both being paler on the outer half. This particular individual is a female, identified by the large eyespot (males have a much smaller spot). One generation per year, overwinter as larvae. Adults are seen from June to September.
Prefer grasslands, like low-lying plants to roost on. I found this one in a meadow.
