Buckeye Butterfly

Junonia sp.

Description:

A very common species in Argentina from October to May. Adult: 57mm, with two apical ocelli, one small and the other bigger, both blacks with a lilac pupil. The posterior wings present two ringed ocelli in ocre and black with a lilac pupil too.

Habitat:

All type of open vegetation included mountainous to 4000m. In Argentina is seen in gardens from Jujuy to Rio Negro Province.

Notes:

Junonia evarete or Junonia genoveva, both species occur in Argentina.
