White-tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

the most widely distributed wild ungulate in the Americas

Habitat:

Carolinian forest

Notes:

I visited Point Peelee national park with a good friend. He loves to hike but I wanted to hike more than he did so we split one day and agreed to meet 4 hours later. I had the best hike! I encountered butterflies, wild turkeys, coral fungi and a few deer! This one spotted me from a distance and we locked eyes for a bit and I wholly expected her to run away but she didn't. She just kept grazing where she was in the forest about 10m (30') away from me. I had time to change lens and get these shots. While I was photographing this one, I heard another deer just up the trail and a mother and fawn crossed the trail but weren't as calm, they disappeared into the forest, as seen in the last 2 photos. During the 4 hour hike I spotted 5 deer but could only photograph these 3.
