Large Salmon Arab - Larva to Adult

Colotis fausta

Description:

Raised indoors, which explains the light-colored chrysalis, I believe.

Habitat:

The caterpillar was found on a caper bush (Capparis sp, which is one reported host plant for this species), in my garden and I brought him, along with the branch he was on, inside to raise. He made the chrysalis, however, on a nearby salt bush (Atriplex sp) branch. Large Salmon Arabs are residents and migrants in Egypt's Eastern Desert and Sinai, preferring semi-desert landscapes near water.

Notes:

Caterpillar: Sept 10; Chrysalis: Sept 14; Adult: Sept 20.
