Florida Sand Skink

Neoseps reynoldsii

Description:

About 4" long. Little bitty legs. Grayish in color, blends in very well with the grayish sand.

Habitat:

Mostly fossorial; They "swim" through the loose sand. I inadvertently dug this one up as I cleaned around my chicken coop. (glad I caught it and not my hens! :o ...)

Notes:

This is a listed species, status is "vulnerable". I guess that's between "threatened" and "endangered". This is actually the third one I've found on my property. I am thrilled they are here. Now to keep them away from the chickens....
