Peninsula Ribbon Snake

Thamnophis sauritus sackenii

Description:

I was walking on a boardwalk preserve and could hear a cry coming from the woods. It sounded like a kitten mewing, I was hopeful it was a baby panther. But I scanned for the direction of the sound and it was coming from almost eye level. I saw then a green tree frog dangling by one knee in a tree snakes mouth. I thought it had a chance of escaping since it was barely caught, but I was captivated by seeing for the first time ever a snake eating its prey in the wild. It was quite a beautiful thing despite having to hear the frog call out. I felt quite privileged to see such an everyday event that is not so commonly seen. I was happy for the snake having successfully caught it's meal. And happier for the beautiful pictures that captured this rare sighting.

Excellent, thank you Janson! I wasn't positive it was a yellow rat snake, I'm no snake expert, this forum is very helpful because of people like you. And I wish you were there too, I want to share it with anyone who would be as fascinated by it as I was.
