Description:

Family: Erebidae, Subfamily: Arctiinae, Tribe: Arctiini (Tiger Moths) Larva of Hickory Tussock Moth. Size: 4.5 cm (1.75 inches long) White with black "toothbrush" like extensions. Black tufts among white long hair. Bites and hairs sting. Do not handle. Feeds on many deciduous trees such as elm. maple, hickory and ash. Harmful to trees. Considered a pest.

Habitat:

Woodlands. Beltzville State Park, PA. Range: Mostly Eastern USA and Canada although goes to Texas, but not the rest of the mid-west.
