Oriental Garden Lizard

Calotes versicolor

Description:

This Oriental Garden Lizard, also known as Changeable Lizard - Calotes versicolor is fairly common in Maldives. I have seen them several times in different islands in bushes and in gardens. This time, I was able to take pictures of a male striking his red coloured trying to impress a female as can be seen in Pic#1. He was striking a pose, 'standing' higher on his front legs as seen in Pic#2 and swaying his head from side to side and also showing the 'dewlap'.

Habitat:

Seen among bushes and gardens.

Notes:

Pics #1, #2 and #3 of a same Male in courting behaviour Pic#4 is of a different male in regular colouration Pic#5 is of a female
