Sialia currucoides
This was a female Mountain Blue Bird. The head was gray/brown with a thin white rim around the eyes. The breast was light brown with the underside around the legs in white. The lower portion of the back was light blue along with some wing and tail feathers. The wings had a thin white edge. The length was about 6 inches.
This sighting was made in an open field on the front range of the Rocky Mountains. The field has low bushes and a creek at about 6920 feet in elevation next to a residential area. The area is very dry with a number of bees and small insects. This bird was among a small flock of about 8 birds.
