Black-necked Stilt

Himantopus mexicanus

Description:

White bodied wading bird with black upper feathers and neck. The legs are very long and pink, almost the color of bubble gum. The beak is very thin and almost twice the length of the head.

Habitat:

Found around still shallow ponds with muddy bottoms and grassy edges.

Notes:

Constantly makes a sharp "pleek" call. Usually found in pairs or more.
