Description:

Large white bird averaging 4 to 5 ft. in length, with a wingspan of 6 to 8 ft. Adults have black bills and feet.

Habitat:

Spotted walking on County 26 at Tamarac NWR. They live on small ponds and lakes with beds of cattails, bulrush, and sedges. Many Trumpeter Swans flock to open water on the Mississippi River near Monticello over winter.
