I don't know why they have that reputation. They always seem pretty friendly and will even perch on the boardwalk at certain sanctuaries.

I do not find them that shy, they tend to stand their ground if you approach slowly. The ones that look like them are the Glossy Ibis and I find them much more skittish and they fly off much quicker
