Porphyrio martinica
Tan head with blue to purple body. Yellow beak slowly changes to orange at the head. Has relatively long stocky yellow legs and walks well on top of lily pads and water vegetation. Purple Gallinules are solitary vs Common Gallinules in which can be more social.
Found along the water's edge walking on water vegetation such as lily pads and emergent water plants and sometimes found on low branches.
Very rare find inland and may be the first find in Brooks County, GA since 1974. Initially spotted by Debbie Grimes on 21 Feb 2017.
