Red-tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

I was very surprised to see this RTH still out and about at dusk. I've never seen any hawks in this tree before or since. If it was roosting for the night, it seemed an odd choice for a perch - it's a fairly busy residential area with a road right next to the tree and an open golf course behind it.

Notes:

Spotted on a tree next to a road near a golf course in Kennesaw, GA

I have seen the same thing at my kids soccer field in Florida, I believe it is hunting as at dusk a lot of small birds are heading home, in my case barn swallows
