Jungle Crow

Corvus macrorhynchos

Description:

Large, all-black crow with a formidable beak.

Habitat:

The water in the picture is Kandy Lake just outside a big temple. the Temple of the Tooth. People put out rice, bread and biscuits which these birds eat. However, these are not pets...or domesticated.

Notes:

These birds were not urban birds as far as my experience in India goes. They were not scavengers like the House crows...but were common in wooded or forested areas. However, they are now increasingly entering urban space. For the last few weeks two Jungle crows are visiting my home (in India) much to the annoyance of the local House crows.
