Horned Lark

Eremophila alpestris

Habitat:

desert

Notes:

It's been awhile since my last lifer. Not anymore! I haven't spent much time out in agricultural areas or grasslands, so I've missed out on this species. I'm aware of many subspecies and I'd love to work on that eventually. Its liquid song first caught my attention and I was very excited to finally see one.

Des, whenever you are out in open areas there's a good chance you'll see one!

me too, I think I doubled the maximum time that I was supposed to be there, at my first time in Bolsa Chica. I wish I could have seen this one.

I know what you guys mean! You should have seen me at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands a few years ago, I was stopping right and left for lifers - my first trip to the wetlands. Thanks for your comments!

Same here, I am a slow hiker, especially when I come across something like this.

I have a list of elusive species that hopefully, one day, I'll get to see. It's amazing what you can spot when you stop and listen. That's why I tend to hike alone. It can take me an hour to travel 1 km. Rewarding though.
