Lithobates clamitans
This frog was caught in a sump pump and had lost a foot in the impeller. It was 32 degrees outside and snow on the ground.
I freed my little friend and brought him in the house because it was freezing outside. We gradually warmed him up and I took him to school and put him in my classroom terrarium until he recovers enough to release. We'll keep an eye on him and give him a chance to recover.

The foot looked pretty good today. Maybe I'll have some of the kids carry him (or her) down to the wetland and release Monday or Tuesday. Better to return it to the wild. I agree!
Does the foot look healed over? As long as the would isn't fresh, he's been getting by just fine since he's rather plump :) I find herps all the time missing a limb or eye and most don't seem to have any problems! If it's warm then I would let him go at water where you found him
Hi Ashley. Thanks for the comment. I guess I was wondering how the guy would do with only one foot. I got him some crickets last week but didn't see him eating, yet. He looks like he's in good shape and with the warmer weather, it might be good to just see how he acts. BTW when I say "he" I'm using it in a generic sense. Could be a she...
Liberating is always a good idea :)
Six days later and he's doing fine. I wonder if it would be best to liberate him?
Checked on him today. Still alive. Made it through the first 24 hours.
