Rufous-vented chachalaca

Ortalis ruficauda

Description:

Large-ish brown beige bird that reminds me of a Turkey (especially the sound they make) The head is grey, and the brown tail is tipped reddish brown. It has a red waddle under it's chin!

Habitat:

In our garden at the foot of Cerro del Avila, Pallos Grande, Altamira, Chacao, Caracas, Venezuela.

Notes:

The first time we heard these birds we thought we had a whole big group of parrots in our garden it was sooooo noisy. There were only two! But they make a lot of noise and kind of hop through the tree. Funny bird. Also it grips the branches with his feet which you can really see very well because of its long legs.
