Fungal Rhizomorphs

Description:

A network of bright white strands of mycelia with fluffy tips on fallen leaf & bark litter.

Habitat:

Spotted on damp forest floor- mixed natives.

Notes:

These are fungal hyphae aligned in a parallel fashion forming cords like rootlets. They transfer nutrients to fruiting bodies and over long distances or assist in breaking down wood to enable wood-rotting fungi to access new food sources.
Possiby Stereum species.

You're welcome Barb. Have seen these in books before but this was the first on these damp forest floors. Love the fluffy tips.
