Green - backed Heron

Butorides striatus

Description:

Also known as Mangrove Heron, Little Heron is a small heron about 35–48 cm; 135 – 250 g; wingspan 52 – 60 cm. I found this in Taman Jaya - Ujung Kulon National Park (mainland) in mangrove area.

Habitat:

Frequents fresh and salt water alike. Typically in mangroves, or in dense vegetation along streams, rivers, lakes, ponds or estuaries; sometimes in more open areas, including mudflats, tidal zones and even exposed coral reefs; also in reedbeds, grassy marshland, pastures, rice fields and other flooded cultivation. Mostly in lowlands.

Notes:

Generally nests alone or in small groups, exceptionally forming colonies of up to 300–500 pairs. Ref. HBW alive.
