Purple-throated Mountaingem Hummingbird

Lampornis calolaemus

Description:

That pictured is a female, who does not exhibit the namesake "purple-throat." It inhabits only a small area from southern Nicaragua through northern Costa Rica, and down to western Panama.

Habitat:

This hummingbird was spotted east of the Poas Volcano in Costa Rica. It inhabits woodlands and rainforest up to 8,000 feet.
