American Redstart

Setophaga ruticilla

Habitat:

Open wooded habitats, particularly those dominated by deciduous trees. In migration, the species can be found in nearly any treed habitats

Notes:

There were a large number in this particular area. They were not being particularly shy and were concentrating on feeding. From shrubs they would fly to the ground in the open grass area in the center to catch an insect then fly back to their perch. A behavior, I learned, is called sallying. In the second pic of this female, you can see a typical tail pattern display.
