In all types of low and coastal aquatic environments, with or without vegetation. Common annual resident from Atacama to Chiloé. Wandering in the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula. Extensive distribution in Argentina to Paraguay, Southeast Brazil and Uruguay
