Chelone glabra
Herbaceous 2-3 ft. tall plant in the plantain family (Plantaginaceae) with opposite, oblong leaves that are serrated. Flowers growing in spikes are two-lipped and white to pink, deepening to purple towards the tips. Their resemblance to turtleheads is reflected in the genus name "chelone," which is greek for "tortoise."
At the base of a ridge along a drainage path beside a dirt road. Surrounded by leaf litter and branches.
