Orang-utan Crab

Achaeus japonicus

Description:

Very small (.75 inch) crab, spotted while diving on the sand adjacent to a coral reef in Fiji. It blends in well with adjacent coral life...I was very fortunate to see this one in open sand. This crab has a very wide arm span...and appears to be standing its ground and flexing its muscles due to my close approach.

Habitat:

Indo-Pacific coral reefs and sandy areas.
