Mourning Cloak

Nymphalis antiopa

Notes:

The Mourning Cloak is usually the first butterfly I see every spring. They overwinter as adults and come out from their shelter on the first warm sunny days. This one looks pretty fresh for a butterfly that emerged last summer and is about 9 months old and it's enjoying a nectar meal from pussy willow.
