Camel spider

Description:

It looks like a mix of scorpion and spider. 4 cm long. Saw it at night. It is a solpugid. The Solifugae are an order of animals in the class Arachnida known variously as camel spiders, wind scorpions, sun spiders, or solifuges. Family Eremobatidae

Habitat:

Arid area.

This appears to be a solifugid in the family Eremobatidae. The anterior margin of the propeltidium is straight. This distinguishes it from the Ammotrechidae, as the margin is recurved in members of that family.

I can't narrow it down past family level, however. Great picture, by the way. He/she is a fierce one!

It is a solpugid, they are an order of arachnid (so it should be removed from the "Insects from Mexico" mission since arachnids aren't insects) :) They are super cool little guys, I love them a lot! Can't help with the ID, but they are in the order Solifugae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solifugae
