Anemone nemorosa
This is a small herbaceous perennial, native to Europe forests, belonging to buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It flowers early in spring, in general before the trees develop their leaves and obscure the forest floor. Flowers are white to pink-rose, with 5 to 8 tepals, and yellow centre. Musky smell from leaves.
Observed early spring in forest and wooded areas, piercing through decomposing leaves on forest floor. Observed in mainly deciduous (small but beautiful) forest near Geneva, right on the border.
The entire plant contains toxic compounds (protoanemonine); but it has also been used as a medicine against rhumatismes.
