Unknown Caterpillar

Description:

I have never seen this caterpillar before. It was very large, 4 cm long, with groups of orange spines tipped in black. It green overall with black and white stripes and bright red spiracles. Its head was stuck in a gate that I couldn't open so I couldn't rescue it. I would have liked to have reared it to an adult.

Habitat:

Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
