Streptosolen jamesonii
Bushy plant. The flowers are vibrant and can be spotted from far away...bright yellow and orange.
Outside many houses at Village Kolakham; a remote, forested area at an altitude of 1868m in the Kalimpong Hills of Darjeeling District, on the fringes of Neora Valley National Park.
I love the name..apparently because it resembles the colour of orange marmalade...now to see the tangerine trees! It is reported that this plant comes from the Andes mountain range...how it came to the Himalayan foothills foxes me.
You're most welcome. :)
Yeah, the colours actually instill joy in the onlooker!
The first and the only time I happened to spot them was in Munnar, but had no idea about species. Interestingly, I came across the spotting, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/735..., used Google Images, luckily found a match and got the two-year-old mystery finally solved! :)
It was surprising to know that this Scrophulariaceae-like species actually belongs to Solanaceae.
