Echium vulgare
Also known as Blueweed, the Viper's bugloss is a species of flowering plant in the borage family Boraginaceae.
It is native to Europe and widespread; and is found in dry calcareous grassland and heaths, around rocks and bare and waste places. Here observed in many locations in and around the Krka NP of Croatia, often on sandy slopes and on boards of paths. The park itself is in the place where river Krka forms a series of waterfalls and lakes; it is surrounded by a magnificent dense broad-leaved forest, and its shallow coastal waters are rich in vegetation.
It is said that Viper's bugloss contain an alkaloid, but its concentration is very low so that there is no effect on humans. It is also said that it can be used as a herbal tea to calm coughs.
