White tackstem Seed Head

Calycoseris wrightii

Description:

Spotted in Willow Beach, Colorado River, Arizona. I am sure many photographers, including I, have taken our share of dandelions as they erode to seed heads. This photo is unique, as it shows the intricate inner structure as the head erodes in a different species, White Tackstem. I captured these two together in early and later stages of erosion. I touched one very lightly after taking this photo, and half of it disintegrated...I am surprised the wind did not accomplish this sooner. USDA... Symbol:CAWR Group:Dicot Family:Asteraceae Duration: Annual Growth Habit: Forb/herb Native Status: L48 N

Habitat:

Sandy desert, canyons.
