Cog Wheel Assassin Bug

Arilus gallus

Description:

Not sure, but could be Arilus carinatus. Quite big and sturdy, more than 2 cm in size with interesting wheel-like thing on its thorax.

Habitat:

High altitude forest. Saw lots of them in various trails including just around the garden of where I stayed.

I guess it might be Arilus gallus, which is reported from Costa Rica.
