Honey Fungus?

Armillaria sp.

Description:

A species of honey fungus? Agaric mushroom cluster growing on an exposed (dead?) tree root at the edge of a walking track. Large caps up to approx. 10 cms in diameter and cream to tan colour, perhaps indicative of their age. Caps also translucent and when viewed from below, and the gills mostly pink to pale red. Gills attached to stipe, although not running its full length, and tapered in thickness towards the base. This was the only mushroom cluster I found along the track.

Habitat:

Spotted on the Reservoir Track in native bushland, in Brisbane Forest Park. Area generally dry but leaf litter in more shaded areas still reasonably moist. Direct sunlight in afternoon only. Mostly native vegetation in area.

Notes:

Possibly Armillaria mellea. Still searching for positive ID.
