Brook trout

Salvelinus fontinalus

Description:

Although this is not my best photo, close inspection confirmed that this little 3-inch fish is a young brook trout. Brook trout are becoming increasingly rare in Maine's brooks. The fish is actually a type of char.

Habitat:

A small woodland brook.
