Cyanocitta cristata
The head and back are almost entirely blue. The wings and tail are a mosaic of blue, black and white. The belly and the chest are gray. A black collar between the throat and the chest rises up behind the crest. The nose is strong and black. The tail is very long. Both sexes are similar.
Lives in forests, parks, countryside and suburbs. Present in southern Quebec, from Abitibi and Lac-Saint-Jean.
It is recognized from a distance by its shrill cries. It is able to imitate the cry of birds of prey to scare the intruder in its territory. This is especially the way to do that earned him a "bad reputation". However, it uses much cooing soft and pleasant to hear to communicate with their young.
