White-throated Sparrow

Zonotrichia albicollis

Description:

The throat is white, which is very distinctive and has earned its name. The cap striped with two black and one white line. The eyebrow is white with a yellow spot near the spout. The belly and the chest are gray and beige flanks. The back is brown with red highlights. Both sexes are similar.

Habitat:

Lives in forests, parks, countryside and suburbs. Present throughout Québec, except the Far North.

Notes:

In some individuals, the cap is stripped with brown stripes and the eyebrow is beige. The yellow spot near the nose and white throat are then difficult to notice. The red color on the back and wings is easier to perceive by the lighting.
