Silvery blue butterfly

Glaucopsyche lygdamus

Description:

The Silvery blue butterfly is a very tiny butterfly (about the size of a dime) and bluish in color. The butterfly is found in North America. It typically flies weakly along just a few inches above the ground. While in flight, it is a beautiful sky blue in color but when it lands and wings are folded, the color is grayish blue. This butterfly is very similar to the eastern-tailed blue but does not have any orange spots on it.

Habitat:

This butterfly was spotted on the beach of the Chesapeake Bay at Fort Smallwood State Park (Anne Arundel County) in Pasadena, Maryland.
