Description:

Carpenter bees construct nests mostly in wood. Carpenter bees can fly long distances and visit many kinds of flowers and can maintain their body temperature when the air temperature is cool. Carpenter bees have a shiny black abdomen. Males are unable to sting. They are also mistaken for bumble bees which are larger.

Habitat:

This carpenter bee was spotted on a dandelion flower in a wooded area at North Point State Park in Baltimore, Maryland
